This book was written in 1935. It covers pretty much all of Asian civilization, from Egypt to Japan, from cave paintings to 1935. He spends a lot of time on India, and explains that Hinduism is fundamentally fatalist which has allowed for other empires to crush the shit out of it for millennia. He then discusses "Mr. Gandhi" at length, and describes him as a leader unlike any India has ever had, and that it's possible India might someday join the rest of the great civilizations on the world stage.

It was a trip to read in 2016.
