Dude the AMC Eagle was dope. Legit CJ underpinnings only with independent front suspension. That's back when people were writing to Peterson's 4x4 asking questions like "why don't American trucks have independent front suspension and coil spring rears like small foreign cars??" and being told BECAUSE INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION IS INFERIOR! while Subarus would kick your ass up the trail.

The bitch against Eagles were that they were "mechanically complex" which essentially means "they have more moving parts than a Wagoneer" which had an export market of zero. However, unlike Subarus you could do this with them:

That li'l volvo looks to have a lot more in common with a Range Rover Evoque than an AMC Eagle. Eagles were decidedly downmarket. And I'd love me an Evoque if they didn't cost $50k used, which is the same price as I'd pay for one of these, blown corvette V-8 and all:

I used to have a fundamental loathing of Volvos, but then I moved to LA and realized that BMWs are far worse. Color me interested.
