Our immigration policy (and those who are responsible for enforcing it) is a joke, except that its not funny, because the joke's on good, honest people who have a lot to contribute to our society. True story: my good friend is visiting her native Greece right now after living in Detroit for the last year or so. She has been hired to start a neurology residency beginning in about two weeks. Her email account got corrupted, so she can't access it, and therefore can't sign the final papers for her visa extension. One would think that you could call up ICE or Homeland Security or the Embassy or any number of places and say "Hey, could you forward those docs to this other email, because there is a problem with the one I gave you?" Nope. They're basically telling her to go fuck herself; she's been told she likely can't reenter the US (even though she lives here, and her stuff is all here). That's our beautiful bureaucracy in action (inaction, if you will).
