I never really had a team. Growing up, I sort of unconsciously rejected most things Texan, constantly wishing I could live somewhere else. I picked the Red Sox just to have someone to root for, and I was decently happy when they won the 07 WS.

But without the ability to watch or listen to any of the games (NESN doesn't broadcast to Central TX), and without anyone to share my fandom with, I was never a real fan, like this author clearly was. What little affinity I had for the team fizzled fairly quickly, and now all that's left is a couple old Red Sox caps and a lazily-conceived, rarely-invoked nickname: "Boston."

I shoulda just been a Rangers fan.
