I'm not 100% certain, but I believe I've read that the vivid red sun in Monet's Impression, Sunrise was also the result of a volcanic eruption, leading to impressionism.

Edit: quick search shows Vesuvius erupted in 1872, and I think that hives with what I heard. Volcanos are pretty neat, and it's nice to see they can make art neat too.
