That's awesome! Where in France? I'm an American who spent a summer studying in Rennes a few years ago. taco and rd both gave great advice, I would also say to have a dictionary handy and stop whenever you find a word that you do not understand and make note of it so you can learn it. If you have ability watch American TV shows or listen to American music I would recommend that as well. humanodon teaches English as a second language and I'm sure he can give you some great advice.
