We've been getting a number of referrals from discussions of Voat on Reddit. I wonder if being in Switzerland makes it more or less likely that they will take down objectionable content. Their Privacy Policy and User Agreement don't seem appreciably different compared to Reddit. In the end, an effort to become profitable is what usually applies the real pressure. Voat does serve a purpose, and some people don't feel like Reddit is doing it. From their About page, it looks like Voat and Hubski are interested in some of the same outcomes. However, it doesn't seem that they are taking an appreciably different way than Reddit to achieve them. We don't think that top-down moderation is the way to go.

IMHO their privacy statements in the About Page and their use of Google cookies doesn't match up.

What will you do with my data?

We will never sell it. That's something we're completely against in principle, and this will not change.

At any rate, I am glad that they are copying Reddit rather than us. :)
