I never read the book. I'm not really a King fan, generally. The Shining as a movie, on the other hand, is nothing short of a masterpiece, possibly the best horror movie ever made. I've seen that movie many times, and I still get scared when Jack approaches the woman in the bathtub.
There was a time when my high school bought 30 or so shitty laptops, which they thought was a bfd back in '97. My English teacher made us do a writing assignment on them, where we were supposed to work on a story every day for a week. As a tribute to the film (and an exercise in protest against this silly assignment) I spent those days writing nothing but "All work and no play make Ben a dull boy". I received, as I recall, a 0% on the assignment, but man was I pleased with myself!
