In news.arc, Paul Graham was crazy efficient with how those variables are presented and updated. Its basically a Gordian knot that we always found reasons to avoid untying. Starting fresh there is a joy. EDIT: BTW, I do not want to do the same for usernames. As we discussed a few weeks back, tags have the comparative disadvantage of not being advertised in comments. This might help strike a better balance.
