It brings to mind the maxim of 'first they ignore you, then they laugh at you', however it seems that she has managed to gain publicity and stature by browbeating and tricking people into responding to her. Then she can play the role of martyr if she needs to. She seems to have a talent for turning every situation to her advantage.
