Conversely though, I think many of the good things that came from religion would have still happened without religion. Certainly now, at the point we are at we no longer need a fake man in the sky in order for us to act ethically or morally. I think that perhaps we would have seen less. That said many of the atrocities would still have occurred via tribalism. My God versus your God is just another way of having us versus them argument. Humans are good at creating isms whether it's via tribe, religion, nationality, ethnicity etc.
