What are you supposed to do there?

Let him die or suffer the consequences if he wants to staunchly believe one thing over what you're trying to do for him. It's that simple. You let him die because he wasn't agreeing to treatment, is there really anything else that you can do? I mean could you try to get him declared as unfit for making his own decisions and bring in a family member or something?
