I'm at work in Detroit, and I am trying to see the city in light of this inversion idea. Over the last six decades, Detroit went from one of the richest cities to one of the poorest.
Detroit pride definitely exists, but I can't say that it is exceptional. We have the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, however, where wealthier suburban folk drive classic cars down the main drag in remembrance of better times. -Maybe that's Detroit's Civil War reenactment... I think there's some merit to this idea. But, I am a Yankee.
