I bought an electric chainsaw two summers ago. I had a gas one from my dad, but it intimidates the heck out of me. My brother has a zip saw, and he's brought it over a few times. For the home, it is by far the more useful device. I was just cutting into my wall the other week and wishing I had a zip saw. I wouldn't dare search for the leak in my wall with my chainsaw.
My electric chainsaw is awesome for cutting branches, but I should have gotten the zip saw. You might be right about 3D printing. But, I hope not.
