a dog on either side
warming my legs
under the covers
upon which this laptop stays
Flags poem on it
My response to his plea
"We've heard you my friend
Rome wasn't built in a day"
The humidifier hums
The light bounces around
From the snow that shimmers
All over the ground
It's early but still
I can already hear
The children on sleds
The snow crunching like gears
I should probably get up
Take a shower and shave
If I don't make some calls
Then I won't get paid
I need to shovel the drive
Should be careful about it
Seems every year there's
Someone dies as they plow it
What irony that would be
For my heart to quit
Snow in the south
I moved away from that shit
But if my heart should fail
Shovel in hand
Please tell my son
I was a good man
Tell him that yesterday
I help push peoples cars
Up icy hills so they could
Get to the bars
Tell him I once saved his aunt
From drowning in the lake
Tell him I'd wait for my bite
Till everyone had cake
If my heart should give out
On this sunny white day
There are so many things
I will have wanted to say
To my wife, you're the shizzle
So smart, funny and kind
Though my heart is now stopped
You're still my valentine
What could have prevented
my early demise?
What could have allowed
My love to thrive?
If I never got up
And shoveled the drive
stayed in bed reading Hubski
I'd still be alive
