True true. It is difficult to not have a westerner's bias on the subject. I've had the good fortune to grow up used to living in the world's lone super power and now other countries understandably want their contemporary equivalent monument. But I think the U.S. is learning (the hard way) that money and possessions don't make you complete.
The vehicle is a good simile for this topic. About once a week I'll see a yellow Lamborghini downtown and think to myself "Wow! People really do buy into this shit don't they?" Money does not afford taste.
