Yeah, Don't breathe that stuff in. It's got all sorts of bad stuff in it. And the dust is very fine which helps it get everywhere. MDF doesn't sound like the best material choice. You should go with a solid wood that can resist rot. Cedar, redwood, walnut, cypress. Even a doug fir or eastern pine will do the trick if you coat it.
