There is a lot of legacy out there that was paper-based. In time, that will be broken down, and we will start to build a whole new world of legacy architecture. Electronic devices and web apps have the advantage of not having much material legacy to break down. Of course, it exists, but dealing with old browsers isn't anything like a tax code. The tax code will simplify, but people's livelihoods are built upon its complexity. There is a lot of friction to overcome. I don't think the geeks are out ahead because they were the first to learn the lesson.

That said, I disagree about the concert poster. That is intentional. I used to go to techno parties in Detroit, and true to the music, the fliers were often little more than a logo and a number. Complexity can be a beautiful thing. It's a mental journey, and when the subject is a pleasant one, complexity is welcomed. In some places, I wish there were more details.
