Hell  ·  4065 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Should we stop believing Malcolm Gladwell?

It's evident Gladwell is in the money making business, disregarding scientific methods in favour of cherry picking, as the article says. I've read his first three books, and I'll admit they were enjoyable to read, but at the same time you just have to wonder how many of these papers he cites are actually peer reviewed, or with a large enough sample size. One way he sells the books is by writing about very specific instances, about personal people and their experiences, and while those things may be true to them, they do not represent the larger sociological framework he is trying to prop up.

I won't be reading his new book, I think that veil has been lifted. Gladwell has done a very good job at establishing a new genre: non-fiction-fiction.
